A Glimpse into the Future

Kicking off 2018 will be “The Commuter” starring Liam Neeson as Michael McCaule, an insurance salesman who is on his daily commute home. A mysterious stranger contacts him, and offers him $100,000 if he identifies a hidden passenger on his train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes he is caught in the midst of a deadly criminal conspiracy and that his life and the lives of his fellow passengers are at risk.


Film: The Commuter

The upcoming psychological thriller-horror film which was partly shot in New York will be released to cinema audiences in January and was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Besides Liam Neeson, the film also stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Jonathan Banks, Elizabeth McGovern, and Sam Neill.

Other New York based films to be released this year include “Permission”, a film about a woman on the brink of a marriage proposal who is told by a friend that she should date other men before spending the rest of her life with her boyfriend. It stars Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, and Jason Sudeikis.


Film: Permission

The film “Golden Exits” starring Emily Browning, Craig Butta, and Jason Giampietro is an intersectional narrative of two families in Brooklyn and the unravelling of unspoken unhappiness that occurs when a young foreign girl spending time abroad upsets the balance on both sides.

Also look out for “Pickings” starring Katie Vincent, ichelle Holland, Joel Bernard, and Usher Morgan. When a short-tempered mobster and his gang of thugs try to shake down a neighbourhood bar, they're soon confronted with the wrath of its owner - a mysterious southern mother with a dangerous past. New York locations include The Glenrowan Sportsbar and Grill in Yonkers playing the Pickings Bar. Liedy's Shore Inn on Staten Island doubles for Linda's Bar and Da Noi Restaurant, also on Staten Island plays Leo's Place.


Film: Ocean's 8

On the big-budget list for 2018 is “Ocean's 8” starring a host of famous female actresses and continuing the theme where George Cloney left off. This time Sandra Bullock steps up as the lead playing Danny Ocean's estranged sister Debbie, who attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City's star-studded annual Met Gala. Another crowd pleaser is “Venom” starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate. As yet the plot is unknown.

And finally, “Three Seconds” which stars Ana de Armas, Rosamund Pike, and Joel Kinnaman and follows an ex-convict, working undercover who intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison.

Looking way off into the distance of 2019, “The Goldfish” tells the story of a boy in New York who is taken in by a wealthy Upper East Side family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The film will feature Sarah Paulson and Ansel Elgort, made famous for his role in “Baby Driver”.
