The Real Entrance for the Sliver Building

Sliver was a 1993 thriller based on the Ira Levin novel of the same name about the mysterious occurrences in a privately owned New York high-rise sliver building. Phillip Noyce directed the film, from a screenplay by Joe Eszterhas. It starred William Baldwin, Tom Berenger, and Sharon Stone as book editor Carly Norris, who has recently moved into the exclusive New York City sliver building "113".

In the film, the tall and narrow sliver building is located at 113 East 38th Street in Manhattan, placing it between Lexington Avenue and Park Avenue. However, in real life that address relates to the five-story apartment building and not a tower as seen in the film. The actual skyscraper used in the film is known as Morgan Court, which was built in 1985 and has 32 floors. It is located at 211 Madison Avenue New York, one block west and two blocks south of the fictional address, and has since become a condominium development. The scenes shot at this location included the interior of the Carly Norris apartment, its connecting balcony and the courtyard. The actual entrance to Morgan Court is on Madison Avenue and according to Wikipedia, was a Los Angeles film set, however this might not necessarily be true as otsoNY has managed to link the front entrance seen in the film to another property in New York.

The discovery was made after Brian Koppel from 'Reel to Real Movie and TV Locations website' requested that otsoNY investigate it further, having been convinced that the street looked more like New York than LA. Though much has changed in twenty-seven years since the film was made, otsoNY has managed to identify the location by examining the surrounding buildings that can been seen during Sharon Stone's initial entry and later on when she returns from having been jogging in Central Park. It is at this moment when Stone approaches a group of reporters standing outside the entrance to the building. In the distance there is a flag with red and white horizontal stripes attached to a building. After further investigates, it was discovered that this flag related to the Polish Consulate in New York's Murray Hill area.

Unfortunately, due to renovations that took place in 2006 to the Morgan Library & Museum, in particular the adjacent Benjamin Wistar Morris-designed annex, the original building that once stood at 24 East 37th Street, and doubled as the fictional entrance to the Sliver building has been completely demolished.
