Desperately Seeking Susan - Special Report (Day 7)
30 years ago today, Madonna made her big screen debut in Desperately Seeking Susan as it was officially released to cinema audiences in the United States. The film received many positive reviews from an array of media critics, one of which Roger Ebert commented, “Desperately Seeking Susan does not move with the self-confidence that its complicated plot requires. But it has its moments, and many of them involve the different kinds of special appeal that Arquette and Madonna are able to generate. They are very particular individuals, and in a dizzying plot they somehow succeed in creating specific, interesting characters.” Time Out Magazine remarked that Madonna had never found a better fit than the role of Susan.
The 80’s were littered with cult movies such as Back to the Future, The Goonies, Beverly Hills Cop, The Breakfast Club, Stand by Me, The Lost Boys and the highly amusing Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Desperately Seeking Susan has joined this list.
otsoNY celebrates the 30th anniversary of Desperately Seeking Susan by adding extra filming locations to the original page as well as replacing the screen grabs with higher quality images.
