Special Feature: Cameron Diaz (The Holiday Film Locations)

14 December 2021

In 2006, Cameron Diaz appeared in the Nancy Meyers' romantic comedy “The Holiday”, alongside Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black. In it she played Amanda, an American movie trailer producer who arranges a home exchange with a British woman. The film became one of the biggest commercial successes of the year, grossing more than $205 million worldwide.

“The Holiday” was partly shot in the UK and included locations in Shere and Godalming, of which otsoNY scouted for this special feature. Beginning in Shere, The White Horse pub can be found at Shere Lane, Shere, Guildford GU5 9HS. Cameron Diaz and Jude Law shot scenes inside the pub.

Adjacent to The White Horse is St James's Church. It was outside this church where Cameron Diaz stands after being dropped off by her driver.

Across from the Church is a public footpath, which leads up onto a field. It was here that a fictional cottage was built for the character of Kate Winslet, of which whilst holidaying in the UK, Diaz would use. The entire cottage was constructed in less than two weeks with the surrounding area resembling a garden and aging wall.

Near the end of the film, Diaz is seen running across a small bridge. This bridge is located between Chantry Lane and Rectory Lane, with walking access from Chantry Lane.

The small supermarket where Diaz shops on the first day was in fact several miles away in Godalming. Located at 18-20 Church Street, The Old House as it is known was converted into a small supermarket.

Concludes tomorrow with roles in “Bad Teacher”, “Sex Tape” and “Annie”.
