A Rainy Day In New York

It has been a long wait for fans of Woody Allen, but that wait is now over with the limited release of his 2018 romantic comedy "A Rainy Day in New York". Written and directed by Allen, the Amazon produced film stars Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, Jude Law, Diego Luna, and Liev Schreiber, and follows the romantic exploits of a young college student on a weekend trip in his hometown of New York City, trying to further bond with his college girlfriend while she's in the city to interview a famous film director.

The film was completed in 2018, but its distributor Amazon Studios halted the release of the film following controversy regarding Allen and the Me Too movement. It was released in Poland on July 26, 2019, with international distributors set to distribute the film in multiple European, South American, and Asian countries.

Principal photography in New York City began in September 2017. Locations featured in the film include the Pierre Hotel on 5th Avenue at the cornier of East 61st Street, Prince Street and Broadway, and next to the Mexican restaurant on Minetta Street between Minetta Lane and Bleecker Street, where a scene featuring Selena Gomez took place.

Other locations used included the Hotel Albert, also known as The Albert and Albert Apartments, which is a historic hotel and apartment complex located in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan. The Met Museum was also used along with numerous restaurants and bars.

Very well known for making films in New York City and being associated with the city, apart from 'New York Stories' (1989) where he directed the segment 'Oedipus Wrecks', and the tele-movie 'The Concert for New York City (2001), where he also directed a segment, surprisingly, this is the very first full feature film directed by Woody Allen with the words "New York" featured in the title. However, Woody Allen has made a number of movies featuring suburbs of New York in the title. These are: 'Manhattan' (1979), 'Bullets Over Broadway' (1994), 'Manhattan Murder Mystery' (1993), and 'Broadway Danny Rose' (1983) - with "Manhattan" and "Broadway" being used twice in Woody Allen theatrical feature film titles.
