New York Film Locations

The Year that was 2012

29 December 2012

As we reach the end of 2012, OTSONY takes a quick look back at what was a great 3rd year for the New York film location website. Starting life in November 2009, On the Set of New York.com has gone from strength to strength and now receives thousands of visits each month, and we would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

2012 kicked off with an additional picture gallery containing 100 photographs of New York added to the website, and another 50 later on in the year. In March we announced that the 700th film to be posted online was not far off, and during this time we also took a look at the competition, reviewing the array of film location websites available online as well as announcing that the makers had plans to launch a sister website for another USA city. Those plans have since been shelved along with the official OTSONY Blog. On the positive side, several organisations came onboard this year and began advertising, one of which On Location Tours that offered a 10% discount when tour tickets were purchased with the special OTSONY code, and British journalist, Eve Robinson started submitting articles for the News Section.

In early June, the 700th film, The Gumball Rally was posted followed by an exclusive Top 100 New York film chart. Classics such as The Seven Year Itch, The Godfather: Part II, Taxi Driver, The French Connection, Wall Street, Fatal Attraction and Ghostbusters all fell short of the number one spot, which was taken by the 1994 crime thriller, Leon: The Professional starring a very young Natalie Portman.

The audience figures doubled during 2012 with the Picture Gallery, the Studio 54 featurette, the Greatest NYC Film Scenes and Sex and the City film location pages becoming the most popular. 2013 will see the redesign of the website, the 800th film posted in the Film Location section and many more News Stories.
