Rounders (1998)

Last Updated: April 2019

Set against New York's professional poker scene, by day Mike McDermott (Matt Damon) is an ambitious law school student. By night he's a "rounder" - a professional gambler with a natural feel for the cards. But after losing $30,000 to Russian shark Teddy KGB (John Malkovich), suddenly the stakes are raised. Mike's pal and ex-con Worm (Edward Norton), is a selfish, self-destructive gambler with a $15,000 debt of his own, a debt that he is quite happy to pass on to Mike. Together they hatch a plan to win the money back, but Worm's inability to play by the rules means they're on a losing streak from the start.
