The Proposal (2009)

Last Updated: March 2013

For three years, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) has slaved as the assistant to Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock), hard-driving editor at a New York publisher. When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she hatches a scheme to marry Andrew - he agrees if she'll promise a promotion. A sceptical INS agent vows to test the couple about each other the next Monday. Andrew had plans to fly home that weekend for his grandma's 90th, so Margaret goes with him to Sitka, Alaska where his family await.

otsoNY Comments: otsoNY tends not to focus on other US cities, but in this case, it really is astonishing to find out that the opening credits for The Proposal consist of quick cut scenes with Ryan Reynolds’ character waking up early to visit the Starbucks coffee shop on behalf of his boss, Margaret, played by Sandra Bullock, as he makes his way to work. All of Reynolds opening scene were shot in Boston, whereas Sandra Bullock’s opening scenes were shot in New York City, and you have to wonder why the film makers decided to do that.

otsoNY Comments: 225 Franklin Street in Boston was the real location of The Colden Books office. The entire main office including Margaret's & Bob's offices were completely rebuilt and replicated at Disney Studios in Burbank, California and used for re-shoots.
