Realising his secret girl-friend Dorothy's pregnancy will sour her relations with her ultra-rich father, career-minded Philadelphia student Jonathan Corliss (Matt Dillon) cooly murders her, making it look like suicide. He then moves to New York to woo her twin sister Ellen (Sean Young). All seems to go well for him, although Ellen's continued investigations into what she is convinced was no suicide forces him to kill again.

otsoNY Comments: The building was constructed in 1895 as a dormitory for the General Theological Seminary, and is now The High Line Hotel. For the film, of which many of the interior scenes were shot on soundstages in England, the building's exterior was only used in the initial opening shot for the homeless shelter offices.

otsoNY Comments: Harem Theatre used to be located at 249 West 42nd Street in New York City. It opened on November 18, 1970, and featured XXX porn films on a double-bill grind for the better part of a quarter century. NYC records indicate that an eating establishment had previously occupied the site since 1964 and before that tenants included an Adler Shoe shop as far back as the 1940. The Harem Theatre was closed 1996, when just about the entire north side of West 42nd Street from 8th Avenue to the Selwyn Building was condemned and taken by the City through eminent domain for redevelopment. In 1997 the theatre and adjacent buildings were demolished to make way for a high-rise Westin Hotel and the 13-screen Loews 42nd Street E-Walk that opened in 1999 and is now run by the Regal Entertainment Group.
