High Strung Free Dance (2018)

Last Updated: Dec 2025

Zander Raines (Thomas Doherty) is an ambitious and disciplined young choreographer determined to secure his future in the elite dance world. He joins an innovative dance company led by the demanding Madison (Jane Seymour), where dancers are pushed to their physical and emotional limits in preparation for a high-stakes debut performance. Zander is paired with Barlow (Juliet Doherty), a talented and fiercely independent contemporary dancer who struggles with trust after a difficult past. As they work closely together, creative tensions and clashing personalities slowly give way to mutual respect and a growing romantic connection, complicated by rival dancers, personal insecurities, and the pressure to stand out in an unforgiving industry. As opening night approaches, Zander and Barlow must confront their fears of failure and intimacy, culminating in a powerful final performance that reflects not just technical perfection, but the courage to take risks both on and off the stage.

otsoNY Comments: The scene opens on the corner of MacDougal Street and West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, where actress Juliet Doherty is clearly seen walking past Groove at 125. However, as the sequence cuts between shots of her and Thomas Doherty inside the car, the surroundings noticeably change. It quickly becomes apparent that the location is unlikely to be New York City—particularly given reports that parts of the film were shot in Bucharest, Romania.
