Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) is a headstrong high-school senior in Sacramento who dreams of escaping to the East Coast for college. Her desire for independence clashes with her loving but critical mother, Marion (Laurie Metcalf), creating a tense yet deeply emotional mother-daughter relationship. As she navigates friendships, romance, and identity at her Catholic school—alongside her best friend Julie (Beanie Feldstein)—Lady Bird makes mistakes that force her to confront who she is and where she comes from.
