A young woman named Nola (Emmy Rossum) flees her troubled home in Kansas to pursue her dream of becoming a singer in New York City. Struggling to make ends meet, she works at a diner while searching for her estranged father. Along the way, she forms close bonds with a group of friends who help her navigate the challenges of city life. As she uncovers family secrets and confronts her past trauma, Nola finds her voice—both as an artist and a woman—determined to stay true to herself and pursue her dreams on her own terms.

otsoNY Comments: There are two scenes set at 240 Central Park South. In the first, Nola is refused entry by the head waiter due to her lack of money. In contrast, the second scene shows her transformed, elegantly dressed in an evening gown and accompanied by a wealthy man.
