Screamboat (2025)

Last Updated: August 2025

On a foggy late-night Staten Island Ferry crossing, a motley group of passengers—rowdy bachelorettes, a tired mother and son, quirky locals, EMT Amber (Amy Schumacher), and determined heroine Selena (Allison Pittel)—just want to get home. Among the crew is lovable deckhand Pete (Jesse Posey), keeping spirits up as the boat pushes into dark waters. But hidden aboard is something far deadlier than rough seas: a foot-and-a-half-tall mouse with soulless eyes, a murderous grin, and an appetite for carnage. This is Steamboat Willie (David Howard Thornton)—and he’s about to turn the iconic orange ferry red. Trapped at sea, Selena, Amber, and Pete must fight for their lives before Willie makes the entire boat his floating slaughterhouse.

otsoNY Comments: Nearly all of the movie takes place aboard the ferry, though some filming shows the New York Harbor for background. The filmmakers chose to shoot many scenes on location in New York City to give "Screamboat" a realistic feel for the fantasy and horror elements of the film. Many aerial shots feature Manhattan's skyscrapers. Establishing shots were filmed at the Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal.

otsoNY Comments: The ferry used in the film was owned by Colin Jost and Pete Davidson. It was reported that the Saturday Night Live stars provided their bright orange, decommissioned Staten Island ferry, on which so much fake blood was used during filming they had to hire a special cleaning crew.
