Emily Hollander (Talia Shire) becomes the target of a disturbing obsession by her neighbour Andrea Glassen (Elizabeth Ashley). After leaving her abusive husband, Emily is attacked by a man who records the assault. It is later revealed that this assault was orchestrated by Andrea, her neighbour, who is secretly in love with her. Andrea's obsession leads her to extreme lengths, including hiring the attacker, in a twisted attempt to manipulate Emily's emotions. As Emily becomes increasingly paranoid and fearful, she begins to realise that her neighbour's interest in her is more than friendly.
